Welcome to Albany County Nursing Home CARES.org, the new website created by and for the nursing home’s Professional Staff Association (NYSUT).

Like the tag line on the homepage says, the website’s purpose is to tell our story, serve as an employee resource for news and information, and to recognize the talents and contributions of our dedicated and caring membership.

The website has been in the design and planning stages since the spring and was launched this fall. Members of the PSA and its Executive Committee spent many months working with a local designer and communications specialist to map out its content and composition, and to create its identity and appearance.

In addition, the site meets today’s industry standards for use by viewers with disabilities and by those using multiple web browsers like Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari. The site also meets the major characteristics today’s users say they want in a web site, that it is: useful and responds to their needs, easy to navigate, has quality content and is updated frequently with new information.

What’s in a name?

You may wonder: Where did the name come from?

The acronym C.A.R.E.S., which stands for Caring About Residents Every Second, was chosen because, simply put, that is what we do as an organization.

Why does the PSA need a website?

During the last two years of uncertainty over the future of Albany County Nursing Home, may members expressed concern that they didn’t know where to turn for quick and accurate information. Many were forced to rely on news reports, which were few and far between.

“There were a lot of rumors out there and a great deal of anxiety among our members,” said Association President Jeff Bradt. “That’s never good for an organization. With this new website we can now provide information that is instant, pertinent as well as newsworthy and entertaining.”

We all know that today, websites have become important news and information tools in our lives. Every business and organization has one, and when people are seeking information, that’s where they most often turn.

“Your web site, in effect, is your frontline employee,” said webmaster John Noetzel. “It today’s ‘techno’ world, the web is the face of your organization and the public’s first impression of you.

What can we expect?

Some of the features viewers will notice after logging on to www.albanycountynursinghomeCARE.org are:

  • Quick links to staff resources, legislative contacts, NYSUT postings, officer information, local news articles, and the Albany County Nursing Home official website.
  • Archived information about “Where we’ve been,” “What we’ve accomplished,” and “Our promising future,” which documents our long history as a facility and organization, our triumphs in the face of adversity and the challenges that lie ahead.
  • A large, full-color revolving photo gallery slide show featuring various ACNH programs, activities and events, as well as PSA staff in action.
  • Regular features highlighting a staff member, resident or resident’s family story, ACNH department, volunteer efforts in the community, and the actions of the Albany County Legislature and County Executive’s office, etc.

As the website evolves, new features will be added. After all, a website is never really finished ... it is always a work in progress.
