The Department of Residential Health Care Facilities Professional Staff Association was organized in 2003 and its Constitution was written and accepted by the membership on April 16th of that year.
It is affiliated with the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) and its national affiliates (AFT/AFL-CIO). A contract was later ratified between the Professional Staff Association and the County of Albany.
Over the years, the Professional Staff Association has faced difficult challenges including economic – loss of membership due to county budget cuts and political – proposals by county officials to permanently close the Albany County Nursing Home all together.
Throughout these challenging times the membership has remained unified and strong, mounting activities and campaigns to protect its workers as well as the residents and families who rely on the nursing home and its important services.
