After a two-year battle waged by the Professional Staff Association membership and a commitment by many members of the Albany County Legislature, a proposal to permanently close Albany County Nursing Home in lieu of in-home health care services and private nursing home placements has been abandoned.
In its place, the County Legislature submitted a Certificate of Need application to the New York State Department of Health in December, 2010, to build a new 200-bed facility on the site of the former Heritage Park in Colonie. At this time, the county, and specifically, the County Legislature’s Special Nursing Home Facilities Committee, is awaiting word on that application.
The Professional Staff Association completely endorses the new nursing home concept and is anxiously awaiting state approval. Please continue to check this website frequently for updates on the project.
